Voting first step to national service: CEC Gyanesh Kumar

Monday, 14 April 2025 | PNS | Ranchi

Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar has said that BLO didis of remote areas like Dasham Waterfall are a source of inspiration for all BLOs working in India. They have reached every house and improved the voting percentage despite facing difficulties in such difficult terrain. He said that "BLO didis reach wherever the sun cannot".

He said that an initiative has been taken by the Election Commission of India under which BLOs from different states of the country are being called to Delhi and trained. BLO didis of Dasham Waterfall will be called to participate in this training program as a trainer so that other BLOs of the country can also know their working style and get inspired by them. The Chief Election Commissioner was addressing the program of dialogue with BLOs of remote areas in the premises of Dasham Waterfall on Sunday. He also addressed the media representatives on this occasion.

While addressing the media, Gyanesh Kumar said that he got the opportunity to meet officials of every level involved in the electoral process of Jharkhand. In Jharkhand, more than 1 lakh election related employees work faithfully and honestly. He said that there are three main components of elections, first the institutional structure of the Election Commission, second the voter list and third the voting and counting.

He said that the institutional structure of the Election Commission, which has only 500 people at the time of elections, becomes the world's largest organization by incorporating other people on deputation and conducts voting in the same process at 10.5 lakh polling stations. He said that along with voting, all 10.5 lakh BLOs and booth level agents of political parties work together in coordination to prepare the voter list.

The Chief Election Commissioner appealed to the voters that voting is the first step to national service. To vote, you must become an elector. Make sure to get your name added to the voter list. No citizen of India who is more than 18 years of age should be left out and whenever the time for voting comes, make sure to cast your vote.

Earlier, in his welcome address at the BLO Samvad program, Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar said that in the last elections, BLOs of remote areas have worked very hard and have done the work of preparing voter list meticulously. They have also contributed well in queue management, which could speed up the voting process. In his concluding address, Deputy Commissioner Ranchi cum District Election Officer Manju Nath Bhajantri praised the work of BLOs and expressed gratitude to the Chief Election Commissioner. During this, the program was conducted by Deputy Secretary Dev Das Dutta.

On this occasion, Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dr. Neha Arora, Ranchi Rural SP Mr. Sumit Kumar Agarwal, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Subodh Kumar along with officials of Election and Ranchi District Administration and BLOs of remote area Dasham Waterfall were present.
