Noted flutist sisters Suchismita and Debopriya Chatterjee will be performing at various educational institutions in Dehradun from Tuesday to Friday.
The concerts of the flutist duo have been organised by the Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY). Disciples of famous flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, the sisters will be accompanied by Jaishankar Misra in the concerts. Their concernts will begin on Tuesday at SBS PG Institute and Doon University followed by performances on September 18 at MKP PG College and Ecole Global Girls International School, on September 19 at MAHAR Hospitality Academy and IMS Unison University and conclude on September 20 with concernts at Ann Mary School and Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy. Belonging to a family of musicians they later became disciples of Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
Debopriya was awarded the national scholarship from the Department of Culture for 2001-03 to pursue her musical endeavours. Suchismita and Debopriya were both awarded a scholarship from Vrindaban Gurukul for the year 2000-2001. Debopriya was also awarded the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the year 2008 by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. During the past two decades they have been accompanying their Guru on stage for various concerts in India as well as abroad. In addition to performing on their own, they also have to their credit various audio releases.
