Four-time MlA of Khariar and former Minister Duryodhan Majhi resigned from the BJD on Thursday. He said the reason for his resignation is that the BJD has selected a “corrupt man” for the Khariar constituency as its candidate. He said this in his resignation letter party president Naveen Patnaik.
“I have taken a decision to be candidate from the Khariar constituency either as an Independent or on another party’s symbol,” he said. Majhi has, however, decided to join the BJP and requested the BJP State president to make him the party candidate. Along with him, 11 prominent local leaders have also resigned from the BJD.
It may be mentioned that the BJD has this time made lambodar Nial as its Khariar candidate. The BJP leadership seems to have made up its mind to allot party ticket to Majhi because its selected candidate Hitesh Bagartti, the sitting MlA has expressed his unwillingness to contest the elections. The contest for Khariar would now be triangular, if Majhi is given the BJP ticket, between Majhi, Nial and probable Congress nominee Adhiraj Panigrahi.
