'One journey over, another begins'

She performed aerial like a pro, jived like a dream and moved to contemporary like no one else. Singer-turned-actress Sophie Choudry did it all with elan in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (JDJ) season 7. But never in her wildest dreams had she thought that her journey with the celebrity dance show will reach a dead end.

“I didn’t expect to get eliminated after coming this far. I’m completely heart-broken. After putting in my heart and soul for 13-weeks this elimination is devastating. I’m not saying others didn’t work hard but I was by far the most versatile contestant,” Choudry says, giving full credit of her success to her choreographer Deepak Singh.

“Unlike other choreographers he dared to take risks.  He was a great partner who pushed me a lot inspite of my injuries. I wish our journey would have continued a little longer because we still had a lot to give,” Choudry adds.

Even thought the show has come to an abrupt end for the chirpy Sophie, it has taught her many life lessons. “This show brought out the real fighting spirit in me. Even when I faltered on the stage and off it, I quickly got my grip and carried on. That is something I have learnt to do. I have conducted myself with great dignity. I also learnt that competitions are like life, not in your control and not always fair. The biggest learning is that you never stop learning. This journey taught me not only new dance styles but a lot about myself and people in general,” she says.

Out of her 13 dance acts, Choudry found the alien act most challenging. “That act on the crutches was unbelievable. It was the first time I’ve felt pain in my hands. But I almost burst out crying when the judges gave us a perfect 30 score. Everyone was mesmerised including Salman khan and that was a bonus,” she recalls.

Talking about her experience with the judges, Choudry says: “Dancing with Madhuriji on kaate nahi katte was a big high. Karan Johar mentoring us for a week and we getting perfect scores in that act and moonwalking with Remo D’Souza and Shahid Kapoor were unforgettable moments,” the remix queen tells you, adding that Mouni and Punit  will lift the trophy. “The fact that Punit and Mouni are given the immunity ball in all their acts is a clear sign of them winning the show,” Choudry who will now get back to her live stage performances and hopefully do a film. “live shows are my true love and post Jhalak I’m looking forward to do lots of live dancing shows. One journey may have ended but a beautiful new one has already begun,” Choudry signs off.
