In a first of its kind initiative, Delhi Police has launched 'Prahari Scheme' at Indira Gandhi International airport for its Unit. Enrolling 600 praharies (security guards) from eleven hotels, commercial centers and other institutions in Aerocity, the Delhi Police is aiming to improve policing at the airport. A facilitation kiosk is available round the clock for public. It was installed at Terminal-3 of IGI Airport and inaugurated by Lieutenant General of Delhi Anil Baijal in the presence of Delhi Commissioner of Police Amulya Patnaik on Tuesday.
"The Delhi Police is establishing these kiosks at prominent junctions so that public can avail of these services of the Delhi Police without going to police stations. At these kiosks, public will find convenient to file complaints. We have launched the Prahari scheme at IGI Airport and also planning to launch the scheme in all districts of Delhi," Patnaik said.
According to police, the Prahari scheme is a force multiplier for policing, and is an initiative wherein the Delhi Police enroll, interact, train and sensitise private security guards of private establishments and maximise their performance collaborating with Delhi Police. They have been trained to act as the eyes and ears for the Delhi Police, to improve policing in the capital.
At the facilitation kiosk located at the arrival forecourt of Terminal-3, IGI Airport, public can avail several services like filing lost and found reports, missing reports, registering online first information report (e-FIR), lodging complaints, reporting economic and cyber offences, obtaining police clearance certificate, character verification report, filing Right to Information (RTI) and more, police said.
"The aim of this scheme is to take the policing at higher level by bridging the gap between the Delhi Police, private security guards and chowkidars. Delhi Police has entrusted various responsibilities to the security guards present in the area by giving them a new identity — 'Delhi Police Prahari'. These guards will have round the clock presence in the area and will be the eyes and ears of the police," Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Sanjay Bhatia said.
The Delhi Police Commissioner also stated that they have requested employers to give necessary equipments to these Praharis so they can perform their duties better. "With their help, police can do better. They are a source multiplier for us," Patnaik said.
Lieutenant General of Delhi Anil Baijal said that the IGI airport handles around 2,00,000 passengers per day. So, the kiosk will work as an interaction point between passengers and Delhi police. "It will make police public friendly." he said.
