HC rejects appeal of pvt Ayurveda colleges on increase of fees

Wednesday, 10 October 2018 | PNS | Nainital

In a major decision which would provide relief to the students studying in private Ayurveda colleges, the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) has quashed the special appeal of the Himalayan Medical College and Combined Entrance Examination Association. In the process, the HC bench comprising the officiating Chief Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari has upheld the ruling of the single bench on the issue.

The single bench in its decision had cancelled the Government Order (GO) of increasing the fees of private Ayurveda colleges and directed the colleges to refund the hiked fees within 15 days.

The State on October 14, 2015 had issued a GO for increasing the fees based on which the colleges charged the hiked fees from the students. The GO had been later challenged by one Lalit Tiwari and others on the plea that the colleges had hiked the annual fees from Rs 80,000 to Rs 2.15 lakh following the release of the GO. The single bench of HC had cancelled the GO and directed the colleges to refund money taken extra from the students. The colleges had challenged the order which on Tuesday was rejected by a special bench of the High Court.
