Hisar MP raises question on INLD's disciplinary panel

Friday, 26 October 2018 | PNS | Chandigarh

Hisar MP Dushyant Chautala, who was suspended from the primary membership of INLD on October 11 has now raised a banner of revolt against the party’s disciplinary committee, which is probing into the accusations of indiscipline against him.

INLD chief OP Chautala’s grandson, Dushyant Chautala has written to the INLD disciplinary committee raising questions on its functioning.

This comes a day after his younger brother Digvijay Chautala had alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched by some party members to remove the two brothers from the party.

During October 18 INLD’s executive committee meeting, the INLD had announced suspension of the two brothers from the primary membership of INLD. Both brothers were suspended and were issued a showcause notice on October 11, but the party made the decision public after its executive meeting held under INLD chief OP Chautala .

Subsequently, the matter of accusations of indiscipline against Dushyant and Digvijay was referred to the party’s disciplinary committee was asked to submit its report by October 25 in this regard.  It was also announced that till then both brothers will remain suspended from INLD’s primary membership.

Raising questions on the conduct of the disciplinary committee, Dushyant Chautala in his letter said, “It is expected that this committee would enquire into the allegations in a just and fair manner. However, going by the conduct of this committee, I have serious apprehension of having my rights being suppressed. The same may be corroborated from the fact that despite being well aware that I am not being provided with any material or evidence on the basis of which the said notice was at the first instance issued.”

“ It may not be out of place to mention here that as an established norm of disciplinary proceedings,  I ought to have been given a personal hearing to present my case. However, the same has been ignored in the present proceedings. This being the situation, I have no hesitation in submitting that this committee is acting in an unprecedented and unlawful

manner. It seems that the committee from day of its constitution had already decided that fate of the proceedings,” he added.

Hisar MP further stated, “Considering the list of events, I am pointing out that the very existence of this committee is unconstitutional since the same is acting without adhering to the principles of natural justice. You may be aware that our country is a democratic nation which is government by “Rule of Law” and not “Rule by Law”.

Dushyant Chautala and Digvijay Chautala are sons of INLD's state secretary general Ajay Singh Chautala, elder son of OP Chautala.

Leader of opposition Abhay Singh Chautala is the younger son of OP Chautala.

Senior Chautala had earlier this month dissolved the party's student and youth wings — headed by Dushyant and Digvijay respectively.

Digvijay, president of now dissolved Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) had on Wednesday claimed that some party members are conspiring against him and Dushyant.

The ongoing rift in the Haryana’s influential Chautala family is seen as “war of succession” between Abhay Singh Chautalaand his nephew Dushyant.
