Rain brings down temperature, fills up lake in Nainital

Monday, 24 September 2018 | PNS | Nainital

Rain in Nainital on Sunday brought the temperature down and forced most locals and tourists to remain indoors. The level of water in the Naini lake also rose to the brim following the rain. There were reports of rain being experienced in other mountainous regions of the Nainital district. In the district headquarters, rain started in the morning accompanied by fog and winds. This rain is being considered detrimental to the Kharif crop almost ready for harvest. Meanwhile, the resulting drop in temperature forced the locals to bring out their woolen clothing.

The level of water in the Naini lake is also reported to have risen by about one inch following the rain. However, due to the rain, there was little boating in the lake with most of the boats being kept on the shores of the lake.

The weather also caused disappointment to the tourists with most of them remaining inside their hotels and lodges. The various sight seeing locations of the town also bore a deserted look on Sunday. The local meteorological centre in charge Pratap Singh Bisht informed that within a period of 24 hours, Nainital town had received about 33.4 millimetres of rain.

The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 20 degrees Celsius and 14 degrees Celsius respectively. The weather conditions are expected to remain similar during the next 24 hours.
