To mark the 30th anniversary of the adoption of United Nation (UN) Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the Asian Children’s Summit was organised in Bangkok, Thailand from November 25 to 29 where of the four child delegates from India, two were from Odisha.
The summit was organised by the Regional Secretariat of South Asian Initiative for Ending Violence against Children (SAIEVAC), Child Right Coalition, Asia and ACWC Thailand for ASIAN Region. The children from South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia came together to form their opinions and give recommendations on the realisation of their rights.
The four child participants from India were Preetimayee Sahoo and Milonee Mishra from Odisha and Prathit Singh and Sasha Agrawal from West Bengal. The child delegates were nominated by National Action and Coordination Group for Ending Violence against Children (NACG EVAC), India through a national level nomination process. They were accompanied by Executive Director, PECUC Anuradha Mohanty and Sisir Thanikal of IJM, Kolkata.
Around 22 countries from Asia participated in the summit. The specific aim of the summit was to gather children’s recommendations on the realisation of their rights to build children’s advocacy capacity and provide a venue for cultural exchange. The principal theme was Justice for Children, Leave No One Behind. The sub theme was violence against children, children’s right to a healthy environment, children in digital environment and children on move.
