Congress candidate from Bastar seat Deepak Baij, who won the seat for the party after a gap of 20-long years, said his party president Rahul Gandhi could not be blamed for the party’s dismal performance across the country.

He said the entire party was responsible for the debacle.

“Rahul Gandhi should not be blamed for party’s defat but the entire party will have to share the responsibility,” he said.

Baij is a popular leader from Bastar and was elected as legislator from Chitrakot seat in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

“I dedicate this victory to the party workers and our MLAs from Bastar who worked for me in a very devoted manner,” he told reporters.

Baij got 4,02,527 votes while his nearest contender Baiduram Kashyap of the BJP got 3,63,545 votes. Interestingly, NOTA (Non of the Above) got 41,667 votes.

“I will raise the issues of Bastar in the Parliament and my focus will be on health and education sectors. My party and I will strongly work on it,” Baij said.

Reacting over NYAY (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) under which his party had promised Rs 72,000 per annum for the poor people, he said in some places NYAY factor worked while in other it failed.

According to Baij BJP had contested the election only on the nationalism issue.
