Thursday, 27 June 2019 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Lauding Delhi Government’s efforts to provide safe and secure environment to women, Labour Minister Gopal Rai inaugurated the installation of CCTV cameras in his Babarpur constituency.

According to Delhi Government, recorded footage (Database) will be shared with Station House Officers (SHOs) and Public Works Department (PWD) which will help to solve crime.

Rai said CCTVs will act as major deterrent to crime and will create fear of law.  “Despite not having the Delhi Police under the Government’s control, several steps are being taken to strengthen rule of law. In this direction, the biggest project towards security of women is the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the city,” the Minister said.

Targeting Delhi police for recent incidents of crime in city, Rai, said, the biggest project towards security of women is the installation of CCTV cameras throughout the city,” Rai added further.

“We are committed to create a secure environment for women and children,” the minister said during the inauguration.

Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also inaugurated the installation of CCTV cameras in his constituency Patparganj.

“For the last six months, Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and the CCTV manufacturer BEL, along with the local RWAs have been surveying their area and have identified spots for surveillance,” quoted a statement from Chief Minister Office (CMO).

“The security of the people of Delhi is not just a commitment of this Government; it is something the Government is actively working to achieve. It is an important day for Babarpur as the installation of CCTV cameras begins today. This was a key promise of our government to the people and is being fulfilled today,” Rai said.

Stressing on the need for this project with respect to women security, he further said, “Today women in Delhi are afraid to step outside their homes. CCTV cameras strike at this fear itself.”

“Women can now step outside their homes with the confidence that Delhi Government’s cameras are watching out for their security. If anyone misbehaves, they will be captured on camera and nabbed immediately.

The Delhi Police SHO of the area will have a live feed of all cameras to avoid any delays in accessing footage,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Minister said further.

“The footage will also reach our command centre at the Public Works Department (PWD) headquarters over internet for which a WiFi connection has been provided by the Government.

I appeal to all people to keep in touch with local RWAs for any issues with respect to the CCTVs and inform the administration in case of any problems faced,” the minister said.
