Newly-elected Chhatrapur MLA Subash Chandra Behera has resigned from the post of President of Ganjam Zilla Parishad. He submitted his resignation letter to Zilla Parishad chief and Ganjam Collector Kulange.

Now, the Government’s decision is awaited as to who will be in charge of the ZP President. Behera has also resigned from ZP Membership from ZP Zone No.19.

The Government is now contemplating to conduct by-election to both the above posts soon. ZP Vice-President Snehalata Panda may remain charge of the ZP.

There are a total of 69 ZP Zones in Ganjam district, out of which 64 had elected BJD candidates in 2017 while four BJP nominees and one from the Congress won. Now, the BJD has started searching a suitable candidate for the ZP chief post. Lingaraj Pradhan, who represents  Sriramachandrapur panchayat is considered by many as the most prospective candidate, sources said.      PNS
