Motichoor flyover work resumes, commuters elated

Wednesday, 06 March 2019 | PNS | Haridwar

The biggest flyover which remains under construction for the past so many years on Haridwar Dehradun National Highway near Haripur Kalan in Motichoor has now picked pace. The construction work has been started again and things are going on at war footing.  Besides,  the construction work of  the flyover near Shankaracharya Chowk has gained pace. Once the construction work on both these flyovers is completed the people would get respite from the traffic jam which often occurs on these two locations, inconveniencing those commuting  on the national highway.

Notably, an agreement had been signed on January 23 with Uttar Pradesh State Setu Nigam Limited for the construction of  the 15 km road stretch on the Haridwar- Dehradun National Highway. The project is worth Rs 350 crore which includes construction of flyovers and over and under bridges of the railways.

The biggest benefit for the commuters from Haridwar to Dehradun will be that they would be spared the traffic jam when a train passes. “The railway crossing remains closed for a long time when the train passes. We face the ordeal nearly daily. After  the construction of the over bridge  is completed we would get respite from the traffic pileup,” said a commuter.

It is a one -way railway track and during the daytime, several trains cross this area, resulting in closure of the railway tracks. Sources say that the flyover work now on near Singh Dwar, Sarai and Patanjali areas in Haridwar district would be completed in a year.

Speaking to The Pioneer, the project director National Highway Authority of India, Pradeep Gosain said, “The pending work of Haridwar -Dehradun highway has been restarted. The work is being monitored now and within the stipulated time, the work would be completed.” Notably, the flyover which is being made in Haridwar over the escape channel of Ganga near to Shankaracharya Chowk is worth  Rs 44 crore  and it is likely to be completed  in 18 months. At present, pillar construction work is going on. During the Kanwad mela and other festivals, this remains the most crowded and bustling crossing near Har Ki Paidi.

Haridwar residents are happy with the flyover work having restarted.  “We hope that the last leg of the construction work would be completed soon. For the past many years, we have been facing problems. This time it should be completed without break. Once completed, it would save our time while commuting between the two cities,” said a student of a college, Rashika who commutes daily from Haridwar to Dehradun.
