The storm generated by the State Cabinet's decision to make change in the system of reservation roster in the Government jobs is refusing to settle. On Tuesday, the employees belonging to general, OBC employees association held a protest demonstration at Clock Tower.
The agitated members of the association burned the effigy of the Cabinet Minister Yashpal Arya for putting pressure on the State Government for taking back the Cabinet decision on reservation roster. The president of the association, Deepak Joshi said that the minister has adopted a partisan attitude and is supporting the employees of a particular segment.
The member of the association are furious on Yashpal Arya as according to them the issue of reservation roster was thoroughly discussed in a cabinet subcommittee headed by Yashpal Arya and now under pressure of a section of employees he has taken a U turn.
In one of its recent meetings the state cabinet, on the recommendation of a three member cabinet subcommittee headed by Yashpal Arya, had decided to change the system of reservation roster in government jobs.
Later, a Government Order (GO) was also issued on the decision according to which the number one position in the roster would now be occupied by general category candidates and the number six position was reserved for Schedule Caste (SC) candidates.
The decision was opposed tooth and nail by the SC and ST employees. Under pressure from these employees and some elected representatives, Yashpal Arya
wrote a letter to Chief Minister stating that he was kept in dark about the reservation roster by the department of personnel.
He reportedly even threatened to resign from the Trivendra Singh Rawat cabinet on the issue.
Under pressure, the State Government decided to re-examine the whole issue prompting the association of general and OBC employees to agitate.
