Saryu seeks CCTV monitoring of strong rooms

Tuesday, 10 December 2019 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Rebel BJP leader Saryu Roy on Monday expressed apprehensions over safety of EVMs at strong room set up at Jamshedpur Cooperative College campus.

Addressing a press meet at his residence, Roy, who fought Assembly polls against CM Raghubar Das from Jamshedpur East said.

“We are aware that the strong room is under strict vigil. I will request the administration to scan CCTV footage every day and if possible to release the footage so that we too can observe the monitoring,” Roy said.

The former Cabinet Minister expressed confidence of winning elections and said, “I would like to thank the people of Jamshedpur East for the support. The people who contested on my behalf are going to win.”

Apart from Roy, the Chief Minister is being challenged by Congress Party’s national spokesperson and XLRI Jamshedpur Professor Gourav Vallabh and JVM’s central secretary Abhay Singh.

Roy on Monday made allegation of yet another scam in a department held by the CM. He said that the energy department was involved in a scam of Rs 850-crore by deciding to issue a tender to a Gujarat based firm Flowmore Limited violating the provision of the tender norms.

“I present some startling facts that the private company was trying to get tenders of JUVNL power grid substation in 2018.

However, it had violated the tender provision by hiding the fact that it was blacklisted in neighbouring Bihar by the water resource department. However, when I protested, the private firm managed to get a certificate from the water resource department that the blacklisting order was repealed. Two members of the tender evaluation committee also protested but they were removed from the committee and a new committee was formed. The removed members then went to High Court,” Roy added.

“It is really shocking that the norms were not followed. I would like to call it as an energy scam as overhead cables and underground cables for dedicated feeder for water supply has overlapping payments and are of inferior quality. I had requested for a comparison of the cost and quality of overhead and underground cables with the cables being laid by JUSCO. But, it is yet to be done,” alleged Roy.

Roy who informed that he would be campaigning for Independent candidate and former BJP MLA Madhav Lal Singh in Gomia expressed satisfaction at the administration measures for conducting a peaceful election but blamed it for creating confusion in carrying of EVMs.

“I am satisfied with administration measures. However, carrying of EVM from polling booth to sector should have been done in a more secured manner rather than being taken on foot which led to confusion. The administration also provided details.
