In a case wherein a three-year-old boy from a school in Dehradun fell off from a school bus in the month of May this year, the father of the child recently informed the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) that the child was removed from the school without any notice or reason being cited.
Taking action on the information the SCPCR chairperson Usha Negi has sent a letter to the chief education officer asking for a detailed report in the case within 15 days.
Negi said, “We have asked a detailed report from the education officer on five points. First, a detailed inspection of the school working as per the rules should be conducted.
The second aspect on which we have sought information is certificate from the income tax department and its fulfillment under section 12.
Checking should be done for the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) granted by the education department. Norms followed by the school under the affiliated CBSE/ICSE board should also be ascertained. The last point on which detail has been sought is the removal of the student from the school without any notice or prior information. A detailed report will be given to us within 15 days and further steps will be taken as per the report will be submitted.”
It is pertinent to mention that the incident took place near Manduwala, Premnagar on May 8. The case came to light when the student did not reach home on time. When the boy’s father enquired, the Doon Heritage School management allegedly tried to hide the incident.
However later he was informed that his son fell off the bus and was admitted in a hospital. After SCPCR took cognisance of the case a proper investigation was done in which school management was found responsible and a case of negligence was filed against the principal of the school.
