Women more enthusiastically particpated in by-poll: CEO

Chief Electoral Officer, Chhattisgarh Subrat Sahoo said based on complaint one presiding officer posted at polling centre 14, Matnar was replaced by reserved   official while on health issues polling centre 15, Matnaar presiding officer was replaced. One ITBP sub inspector was removed after complaint of misbehaving with voters was reported.

Briefing the media on Chitrakot by-poll on Monday, he said women, elderly people have participated in large number. 80-year old Rambatti of Village Bitta under Lohandiguda was one of the senior-most voter. Women with minor children and pregnant women also stood in queue for hours to cast their vote.

Around 50 villagers of village Kantabans were assisted to cross the Indravati river to cast their vote in polling booth at Karekot polling    centre. The traditional boat ‘dongi’ is made by tree trunk. Some of them have travelled 40 km crossing the hills, rivers and valley.

Sahoo pointed out one ballot unit, two control units and 5 VVPAT machines were replaced after fault. Webcasting was done in 22 polling centres for monitoring. Security was provided by 31 companies and State police. Drones were used in internal and outer areas for monitoring Naxal movement.
