Delhiites forced to drink polluted water: Gupta

Tuesday, 03 November 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Hitting out at ruling Aam Aadmi Party ( AAP) Government  for disrupting water supply to Delhi citizens, Delhi Bhartiya Janta Party ( BJP) president Adesh Gupta said increased ammonia level in Yamuna affected the water supply in various areas of Delhi and the people of Delhi have been compelled to drink dirty and polluted water.

Gupta said that the people of Delhi should also know the truth that instead of protecting them, Kejriwal government has become more careless even in this corona crisis. As a result, the people of Delhi are compelled to breathe polluted air and drink poisonous water.

He said that last year when the level of ammonia in Yamuna river increased, then Chief Minister Kejriwal had announced that 14 new STPs would be set up for which Rs 4206 crore were allocated but not a single has been set up. Doctors and experts are of the opinion that if the people of Delhi have to drink ammonia-rich water for the next 10 years, due increasing levels of ammonia in the Yamuna, then life-threatening diseases like cancer can occur.

Gupta said that there are 20 sewage treatment plants of 597 MGD capacity in Delhi and only 520 MGD is being used. 750 MGD of waste is produced in Delhi with around 230 MGD being dumped into the Yamuna River causing water pollution.
