Maha deaths drop to 250, infection down to 10,259

In a drop in the number of deaths and infections, as many 250 people succumbed to Covid-19 and 10,259 others tested positive in various parts of Maharashtra on Saturday.

A day after the state logged 306 deaths and 11,447 infections, the number of deaths dropped by 56 and the infected cases came down by 1186.

With 250 fresh deaths, the total number of deaths mounted from 41,502 to 41,965.

Similarly, with 10259 infections, the total number of infected cases jumped from 15,76,062 to 15,86,321. 

On a day when 14,238 people were discharged from various hospitals in the state, the number of people discharged from various hospitals after full recovery since the second week of March this year went up to 13,58,606. The recovery rate in the state rose from 85.03 per cent to 85.65 per cent. 

Of the 250 deaths reported on Saturday, Mumbai accounted for a maximum of 47 deaths, followed by 40 deaths in Pune, 22 in Nagpur, 21 in Thane, 18 in Solapur, 13 in Sangli and 11 in Beed district.

In the lower range, there were nine deaths in Satara, 7 in Kolhapur, 6 each in Palghar and Nashik, 5 in Raigad, 4 each in Ahmednagar, Ratnagiri, Aurangabad, Osmanabad, Amravati and Bhandara, 3 each in Yavatmal, Washim and Wardha, 2 each in Sindhudurg, Jalna and Chandrapur and one death each in Jalgaon, Hingoli, Latur, Nanded, Gondia and Gadchiroli district.

With 47 death,  the Covid-19 toll in Mumbai shot up from 9,638 to 9,739 while the number of corona cases rose by 1,791 to trigger a jump in the total infections   from 238,544 to 240,335.

Meanwhile, the mortality rate in the state stood at 2.65 per cent. The authorities pegged the  “active cases” in the state at 1,85,270.

Pune district, which continued to be the worst-affected city-district in Maharashtra, saw the total number of cases touch 3,22,818 while the total number of deaths in Pune increased to 6493.

Thane district remained in the third spot --after Pune and Mumbai – with 2,11,606 total cases, while the pandemic toll  rose to 5197.

Out of 80,69,100 samples sent to laboratories, 15,86,321 have tested positive (19.66 per cent) for COVID-19 until Saturday.
