5 deaths, 288 fresh cases reported as Chandigarh cross 9K-mark

Five more residents have died due to COVID-19 as Chandigarh reported 288 fresh positive cases, pushing the overall tally past 9000-mark. 106 COVID-19 fatalities and a total of 9256 positive cases have been reported in the city so far, stated the Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

Earlier, it was on September 14 when the positive cases had crossed 8000-mark. It took just three days for the city to record another 1000 infections. A day before, Chandigarh had reported 366 positive cases.  “There were 3085 active cases in the union territory. With a single-day record of 379 recoveries, the total recovered patients jumped to 6062 in the city,” the bulletin stated.        

Giving details of the fatalities, it stated, “An 81 year old male resident of Sector 55, a comorbid expired at GMCH-32 on September 16, a 57 years old male resident of Sector 30, a comorbid expired at GMCH-32 on Thursday and a 61 years old male resident of Manimajra expired at Fortis Hospital, Mohali on Thursday. An 18 years old female resident of Sector 42 was brought dead to GMSH-16 on September 15 and was  tested COVID positive after death. A 48 years old female resident of Sector 28, a case of Sepsis and ARDS, expired at GMSH-16 on Thursday, the bulletin stated.

The fresh cases were reported from Sectors 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 56, 61, 63, Sector 38 west, Behlana, Dadumajra, Dhanas, Hallomajra, Industrial Area Phase 2, Kaimbwala, Khuda Alisher, Khuda Jassu, Khuda Lahora, Palsora, Maloya, Mauli Jagra ,Manimajra,  Kishangarh, PGIMER campus, Raipur Khurd, Ram Darbar and Sarangpur. 

A maximum of 18 cases were reported from Manimajra, 13 in Dhanas, 12 cases each in Sector 33 and 19, 10 cases each in Sectors 20, 21, 22 and 46, as per the bulletin.
