DGP stresses upon inter-State cooperation to stop cybercrime

Friday, 25 September 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand DGP MV Rao on Thursday directed district police to work-out a composite plan to investigate cybercrime cases stating that nature and the emerging pattern of cybercrime needs more interstate cooperation.

Rao said this while chairing a review meeting on cybercrime control at Jharkhand Police headquarters. The review meeting held through video conferencing was attended ADG (CID) Anil Palta, IG (HR) Naveen Kumar Singh, IG (Operation) Saket Kumar Singh, DIG Akhilesh Jha, SP (CID) Anjani Kumar Jha besides SP and SSP rank officials from districts attended the meeting.

During course of meeting Rao sought from officials the five years record of cybercrime in their respective districts besides number of pending cases, details of cases where chargesheet has been submitted.

He emphasised upon regular update of database of criminals. He said that once a cybercriminal is arrested mobile SIM cards are seized from their possession; police need to verify SIM card owner and whether or not SIM cards were procured on basis of fake documents. He said that in case of fake documents used in the procurement of SIM cards action must be taken against vendors and service providers. He also sought to know whether or not actions are being taken against vendors and service providers.

DGP said that cybercrime is not restricted to any territory hence prevention and detection of crime and arresting of criminals can be ensured only through interstate cooperation.

He said that Jharkhand Police has already facilitated Online Investigation Cooperation Request (OICR). This portal is meant to proactively seek cooperation requests from all states across the country, where victims might have lodged FIRs related to such frauds having some links in Jharkhand. It also intends to facilitate easy lodging of investigation cooperation requests by police of other states and law enforcement agencies in case the crime has any connection with Jharkhand.

It will be the endeavour of Jharkhand Police to execute all the legal requests received via this online service at the earliest and communicate the action taken report to the requesting officer.

He asked all districts to furnish a report about the number of investigation requests received on OICR. DGP said that police need to ensure quick disposal of cases and conviction of accused.
