The father-in-law of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Deputy Zonal Commissioner Pramod Kumar Prusty was arrested by a team of Jajpur police late on Thursday night in connection with the alleged rape of a minor tribal girl at Shailashree Vihar here.
As per the complaint lodged with police, the girl is now five months pregnant. Following the arrest, the cops conducted accused Prafulla’s medical examination and after his interrogation he was produced in court on Friday, said sources.Besides, action will been taken against the OAS officer as per the Child Labour Law. The cops are also searching to nab middleman Brahmananda Barik, who had brought the girl to the BMC official’s residence. Earlier on Wednesday, a team from the Balichandrapur police station raided Pramod house but didn’t find him and his father-in-law.
It might be mentioned here that the victim was working at Pramod’s residence as a domestic help for the last two years.
On November 1, the girl’s mother, a native of Nanapur village in Jajpur district, lodged a written complaint at Balichandrapur police station alleging that her daughter was raped repeatedly by Prafulla. She said her daughter had returned to her house in Dussehra and revealed the matter to her.
