Schools should reopen only after situation normalises, say parents

Wednesday, 03 June 2020 | PNS | Ranchi

The Federations of Parents Association, India organised a Google meet on Tuesday with the representatives from the various states to discuss about the government’s decision of opening schools during the Covid- 19 outbreak. The meeting was chaired by the Federation of India Parents Association General Secretary Ajay Rai.

Due to the nationwide lockdown which has severely affected employment, parents from various states have appealed to the private schools and the government to waive off the fees for the lockdown period. Appeals regarding the same have been made to the Prime Minister, Human Resource Development Minister, Education Minister and the Chief Minister of all the states through campaigns on Twitter, memorandums and video conferencing but no action has been taken in this regard.

In the meeting, it was also discussed that schools across the country should remain closed till the effects of Covid- 19 cease and things return to normal. Due to the harmful effects on the health of children, online classes from class I to class VIII should be banned with immediate effect. In this regard, members of the association have decided to stage a protest against the schools on June 14.

It was also decided that a delegation with representatives of the association from all the states will meet Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairman Priyank Kanoongo to discuss the present problems faced by the parents across the country.
