All arrangements made for municipal corporation polls in Chandigarh today

A total of 3700 police personnel will be on duty to conduct Municipal Corporation Chandigarh elections in a peaceful manner in the city on Friday. The timings of the poll are from 7.30 AM to 5.00 PM and 633,475 voters will cast their votes in 694 polling booths in the Polls. As many as 203 candidates of different political parties including Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are in fray for the 35 wards in MCC Election. The counting of votes will take place on December 27.

The Election Commission has put up notice boards outside the polling station building wherein the summary particulars of the contesting candidates have been displayed for the benefit of the voters. Keeping in view of Covid-19 protocols, the Election Commission has put tents/shaded areas so that voters do not stand in long queues rather wait for their turn in the enclosed area. An official with a thermal screener will measure the body temperature of voters entering the building. Outside each polling station provision of mask, single hand glove and sanitizer has been placed for use by voters.

The Commission has set up nine model polling stations wherein besides the assured minimum facilities like the facility of hot tea/coffee, sitting lounge, welcoming senior citizens with red rose will be arranged, an official added.
