The Chandigarh Administration on Thursday decided that there will be no cultural programme involving school students during the Republic Day celebration at Parade Ground in Sector 17 here.
Also, there will be no ‘At Home’ function at Punjab Raj Bhawan on January 26. UT Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar held a meeting to review preparations for the 72nd Republic Day celebrations.
It was decided that there will be no ‘At Home’ function at Punjab Raj Bhawan on Republic day. Every year, ‘At Home’ function witness the presence of a large number of dignitaries from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Earlier on August 15, 2020 also, no ‘At Home’ function was held at Raj Bhawan due to COVID-19.
The UT Deputy Commissioner said that at Republic day celebrations in Sector 17 Parade ground, the public gathering will be one third of the capacity of the venue.
He said that all participants along with officials of the programme would have to undergo thermal scanning, besides maintaining social distancing and wearing of face masks.
He said that the National Flag will be hoisted by the chief guest, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore followed by a march past by police contingents and address by the chief guest.
Tableau display by various departments of the Chandigarh Administration was also discussed during the meeting. However, no cultural programme involving school students will be organised this time due to COVID-19, Brar said.
