Villager dies in landmine blast in Lohardaga

Friday, 24 December 2021 | PNS | Ranchi/Lohardaga

A villager died in a landmine blast at the Dundru Chapal forest area under Serendag police station of Lohardaga district about 50 km from district headquarters. The police confirmed the landmine blast which was a typical pressure bomb planted by CPI (Maoist) to target security forces.

The locality where the incident took place is situated on the border of Gumla and Lohardaga districts.

The deceased was identified as Supal Turi, a native of Hesang who had gone to the forest on Wednesday to collect bamboo leaves for his cattle. Family members started searching for him when he did not return home. His body was found lying in the forest.

This is the same forest area where a jawan Duleshwar Paras had died in the landmine blast at Dundru on February 16 during an anti-naxal operation. The police team was sent to the forest area for investigation along with the bomb detection squad.

Earlier in June, a villager had died after he accidentally landed upon a landmine planted by rebels at Bulbul forest area under Peshrar police station.

In recent months Lohardaga and Gumla have witnessed a number of cases of civilians and security personnel dying in the landmine blast.

On July 13 seven years old Drona, the most celebrated dog of the CRPF died in the line of duty during an anti-Naxal operation in Marwa forest area under Kurumgarh police station in Gumla district.

Drona trained and commissioned in the CRPF in 2014, saved the lives of many CRPF personnel when he sniffed a landmine in the forest area laid by rebels. His handler Vishwajeet Kumbhkar also got injured.

On the next day a villager Rameshwar Munda died in the IED blast in the same area. He was accompanying security forces to guide them in the dense forests.
