CM felicitates 400 self-dependent Didis of 3 districts

Thursday, 08 December 2022 | PNS | Ranchi

For the strength of the state, it is necessary for the rural economy to be strong. The rural economy will become strong only when the villagers stand on their own feet. For this purpose, the government is making plans and putting them on the ground,” said Chief Minister Hemant Soren while addressing the "Graduation Ceremony of Sisters of Jharkhand" organized by The Nudge Institute today. On this occasion, the CM felicitated 400 didis of Lohardaga, Latehar and Gumla districts, who became self-reliant and capable of livelihood and encouraged them to move forward. The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts and work of the Nudge Institute, which played an important role in making these sisters of very poor families self-reliant.

The CM said that the way these didis have not only become self-reliant by joining various livelihoods in the face of adversity and challenges, but are also taking care of their families in the best possible way, they are a source of energy for other didis. “I hope that all the didis of the state will be even stronger in the days to come,” he said.

Soren said that Jharkhand is counted among the backward states even after having abundance of all resources including minerals. A large population of tribals, dalits, minorities and backward classes here is facing poverty. The social fabric of these people is such that they are not getting the benefit of the mineral resources here. Big industries are using the mineral resources here, but the state is not getting its benefit. Our government is working seriously on this issue so that the resources here can be used for the uplift of the people and development of the state.

The CM said that the experience of our elders, what they taught us is still very useful for the rural economy. Their livestock was their wealth. They handled it very well. Now the government has also started Mukhyamantri Pashudhan Yojana on the same pattern. Under this scheme, villagers are being given subsidies for construction of sheds with animals, so that they can increase their income by doing animal husbandry. Apart from this, the government has started many schemes including Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, Didi-Badi Yojana for the empowerment of the villagers. All these schemes are giving strength to the rural economy.

It was informed by the Nudge Institute that they are working in the field of poverty alleviation in the state. During the last 3 years, sisters of very poor families in Lohardaga, Gumla and Latehar districts have been linked to livelihood through self-help groups. Support is being given by the Central Government, State Government, NRLM and JSLPS in this. The result of this is that these sisters have become self-reliant today. Today, these sisters are making a big contribution to the income of the family. Their trend towards savings is also very positive. Now "End Ultra Poverty Program" is being run in Godda, Palamu and East Singhbhum districts. Through this, the work of connecting 4000 very poor women with livelihood is being done.

The function was attended by Vinay Kumar Choubey, Secretary to the Chief Minister, Atul Satija, Founder and CEO of The Nudge Institute, Ritesh Chopra of KPMG, Lakshmi Lingam and a large number of Didis.
