Wednesday, 13 July 2022 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

In a significant development in the case of suicide of BJB College student Ruchika Mohanty, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh on Tuesday said the mobile phone of the deceased would be sent to Singapore for data retrieval.

Singh said, “We have recovered the mobile phone of the girl. In order to retrieve necessary data from the device without affecting critical information, it will be sent to Singapore.”

During the investigation, as many as 198 students and hostel inmates of the college, friends, relatives and family members of Ruchika have been questioned so far, the DCP said.

The students who were questioned didn’t mention anything about “ragging”. The investigators also questioned the students if Ruchika was under depression, to which they answered in negative. Further investigation by police is underway. A confidential phone number has been provided to the students to provide any information related to the case, Singh said.

A psychologist and a counsellor have been roped in to ensure that the students, who would be questioned, do not feel intimidated, he added.
