Special Olympics Badminton National coaching camp begins at BSL

Children with intellectual disabilities of India will also take part in the Special Olympics to be held in Germany in June 2023 to bring laurels to the country.  Bokaro Steel City which has already been declared as the first Global Active Partner City in the country  marked the beginning with the inauguration of the National Selection cum Coaching Camp for Badminton on 27th June at BSL's Sports Complex, Sector-4F in Bokaro Steel City. It is noteworthy that for the first time, selection cum coaching camp for Badminton for mentally challenged children is being organized in Bokaro Steel City in association with Special Olympics India under CSR of Bokaro Steel Plant.

 

The coaching camp was inaugurated by Sanjay Kumar, Executive Director (Personnel & Administration), BSL in the presence of Air Commodore and Executive Director (Special Olympic India) Lalit Kumar Sharma. During this event Assistant Area Director of Special Olympics India (Jharkhand) Satveer Singh Sahota, CGM Inc (Personnel) of BSL Pawan Kumar, CGM INC (Town Administration) BS Popli, CGM (CED) Shaligram Singh, CGM (Security) Manoj Kumar, CGM (Personnel) Hari Mohan Jha along with other senior officers, athletes, 75 specially abled children from 18 states were present.

 

In the beginning of the programme, Satveer Singh Sahota highlighted the outline of the programme, after which the participants introduced themselves. Addressing the gathering, (ED) Sanjay Kumar said that it is a matter of pride for SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant to be a part of this campaign to bring these children into the mainstream through sports. He said that Bokaro Steel Plant Special Olympics will continue to work with India to take this campaign forward. Children from Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Punjab, Pondicherry, Odisha, Gujarat, Goa, Haryana, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Himachal Pradesh have been selected in this coaching camp which will run till July 1 and will be made aware of various rules and techniques of playing badminton. The coaching camp will be conducted in two shifts from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

 

CRK Sudhanshu, DGM (CSR), BSL Initially welcomed all in the screening camp and the program was conducted by Tanu Priya, Deputy Manager (Material Management). COC BSL MK Dhan said, BSL has been focusing on the areas of promotion of health and sports through its CSR. BSL now plans to work consistently in the area of uplift of mentally challenged children and help them realize their potential through sports.
