Amidst celebrations of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) victory in Uttar Pradesh for the second time in a row, a bizarre case was reported from Auraiya district where a wedding procession was attacked and robbed for playing ‘Modi-Yogi’ songs. Police registered a case in this connection and launched efforts to identify and arrest the accused.

Reports said that participants of a wedding procession were beaten up for playing an election theme song related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Auraiya district.

The police claimed that the guests were celebrating the victory of the BJP with a thumping majority on Friday night when some unidentified accused thrashed them and vandalised their vehicles. They also deprived them of cash and ornaments.

According to Brijbhan Singh, a resident of Dilippur village, he was taking his son Rohit’s wedding procession and the guests were travelling in about seven different vehicles, including four cars and three vans. A song was being played praising ‘Yogi-Modi’ on BJP’s victory when some people forcibly stopped the vehicles, attacked the procession and ransacked the vehicles.

Later, they escaped with Rs 2 lakh kept in a car besides the jewellery that was supposed to be given to the bride. Some people suffered grievous wounds. Ruruganj outpost in-charge Tanmay Choudhary said a case was registered in this connection and a manhunt was launched for the attackers.

Meanwhile in Azamgarh, a 12-year-old girl and her maternal grandmother were found dead with their throats slit on Sunday, police said. The incident took place in Gawain village under Didarganj police station limits. Azamgarh SP Anurag Arya said the girl’s grandmother was identified as Lilawati Gupta (50).

Neighbours entered the house in the morning after finding the gates open. They informed the police after discovering two bodies lying in a pool of blood. The husband and other relatives of the victim live in other cities for work. The bodies were sent for autopsy. Four police teams along with the Special Operations Group started a probe into the case, the SP said.

According to the police, the duo were attacked by a sharp-edged object. DIG Akhilesh Kumar, along with the SP and other senior officers, also visited the crime scene.
