BJP ex-MP’s son dies in PGI hosp sans treatment

Tuesday, 31 October 2023 | PNS | Lucknow

In a heart-wrenching incident, Prakash Mishra, the son of former Bharatiya Janata Party’s Member of Parliament Bhairav Mishra, passed away at the gates of Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Lucknow without treatment.

The bereaved family alleged that Prakash’s untimely demise was the result of lack of prompt medical attention and a delay in providing the necessary care.

The former BJP MP recounted the painful experience he and his family endured on the fateful day. According to Mishra, despite the urgency due to his son Prakash’s deteriorating health, the hospital staff and doctors at the SGPGIMS delayed admitting him and instead insisted on completing paper work before providing medical assistance.

Mishra claims that he contacted both the PRO (public relations officer) of Brajesh Pathak, who also holds the Health portfolio, and the PRO of SGPGIMS to report the issue beforehand.

Tragically, Prakash Mishra, also known as Bablu, had been suffering from a prolonged illness and had undergone surgery twice. His health took a severe turn for the worse on Saturday, prompting his family to transfer him from a district hospital to the SGPGIMS in Lucknow. However, the family’s hopes for life-saving treatment were dashed as Prakash passed away due to the alleged lack of timely care.

The incident has garnered significant attention, with prominent political leaders expressing their condolences and concern. On Monday, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya visited the residence of the bereaved BJP leader in Chitrakoot, where he expressed his deep concern over the circumstances surrounding Prakash’s tragic demise. Maurya pledged to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if medical professionals and staff were negligent in their duty. He emphasised that those found responsible for any lapses in care would not be spared.

In response to questions from journalists, Maurya dismissed any political connotations to the issue, stressing that the focus should remain on ensuring accountability and improving healthcare services.

He further affirmed the government’s commitment to taking prompt action against negligence within hospitals.

The deputy chief minister stated, “The state government has taken cognisance of the entire incident and an investigation is already in progress, and actions will be taken accordingly.”

Prakash Mishra, a prominent figure in Chitrakoot, managed various business ventures, including coal trade. His wife, Ekta Mishra, had served as a former district panchayat member. He leaves behind his wife and a son.

Prakash was the elder sibling among three brothers and one sister, with his uncle, Dinesh Mishra, also having a political background as a former MLA.
