Pb Governor appoints Dr.  Susheel Mittal as the Vice Chancellor of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University

Chandigarh: Punjab Governor and Chancellor of Universities in the State, Banwari Lal Purohit has appointed Dr. Susheel Mittal as the Vice Chancellor of I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.
He has been appointed for a period of three years, with effect from the date of his assumption of office. Mittal did his Doctorate in Chemistry from Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India in 1986 and is a Chartered Chemist (CChem), Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) London (UK) and a Member of the Advisory Board/Editorial Board of many international and national journals of repute.       Presently, he is serving as Vice-Chancellor of SBS State University, Gurdaspur and earlier, he served at Thapar Institute of Engg and Technology.

Punjab VB nabs Patwari for forging mutation documents

Chandigarh: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has nabbed a retired Patwari for accepting a bribe of Rs 2500 and furnishing forged documents pertaining to Jamabandi of Mutation in 2016. The accused Patwari has been identified as Iqbal Singh, who was posted at Revenue Halqa Jalalabad city in Fazilka district.  An official spokesperson of the VB said that the retired Patwari Iqbal Singh has been arrested on the complaint of Rajesh Kumar resident of Panje Ke Uttar in Ferozepur district.

Memoirs of former Pb Chief Secy Ranjan Kashyap to be unveiled today

Chandigarh: 'Beyond the trappings of office, a civil servant's journey in Punjab',  a memoir by Rajan Kashyap, former Chief Secretary of Punjab, would be released at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Sector - 26 on Friday by former Chief Justice SS Sodhi and Gurbachan Jagat, ex-Governor of Manipur. The book describes the growth story of the state, and the important events and leaders who shaped the unprecedented development of Punjab over half a century. Kashyap joined the IAS in 1965 and retired as Chief Secretary in 2003 after a career spanning 38 years.

Himachal CM launches map on 'Celebrities associated with Shimla'

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the 'Celebrities associated with Shimla' map prepared by Trilok Suryavanshi on Wednesday evening. Suryavanshi is a former Assistant Director of the Department of Language, Art and Culture.  Sukhu said that Shimla is a historic city and many world-famous celebrities have association with this place. He lauded the efforts to compile information about different historical sites of Shimla and hoped that this map would prove to be an interesting record for youth to get information about the historical importance of Shimla.

HP bags award in tobacco control

Shimla: Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Sudesh Mokta and Director of Health Services, Dr. Gopal Beri handed over the award for outstanding contribution in the area of tobacco control to Himachal Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil.  MD, NHM apprised the Minister that Himachal Pradesh was given this award for the commendable work done for tobacco control on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day this year.

Hry to introduce 'Diploma in Proficiency in Sanskrit' at Sanskrit College, Panchkula

Chandigarh: Haryana Higher Education Minister Mool Chand Sharma on Thursday said that the Education Department will introduce a new 'Diploma in Proficiency in Sanskrit' at the Shri Mata Mansa Devi Government Sanskrit College in Panchkula from this academic session. The college has been allocated 40 seats for this diploma course, while the Government College for Women in Bhodia Khera, Fatehabad has also been allotted 40 seats for M.A. Sanskrit, he added.

Intensive campaign launched in Haryana to control power theft

Chandigarh: Haryana Power Utilities has launched an intensive campaign to control power theft in the state. A total of 264 teams of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) detected 1144 power theft cases of 2320 KW load and a fine of about Rs 2.90 crore was imposed accordingly. Managing Director of UHBVN, Saket Kumar shared the details of the campaign, stating that it involved comprehensive inspections conducted throughout the state by the Nigam. The Nigam, with the assistance of law enforcement authorities, took strong measures against individuals involved in power theft by carrying out coordinated raids across all districts of the state. He said that a total of 287 teams of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam caught 1511 power thefts of 3489 KW load and imposed a fine of about Rs 6.30 crore.

Himachal CM virtually reviews law and order situation

Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday held a virtual meeting with all Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police to review the law and order situation in the context of the Salooni incident in Chamba district and directed to keep strict vigil to maintain law and order situation in their respective districts. Chief Secretary, Prabodh Saxena, Principal Secretary Home, Bharat Khera, OSD to the Chief Minister, Gopal Sharma, ADGPs, Satwant Atwal and Abhishek Trivedi, IGP, Santosh Patial, Principal Private Secretary to the Chief Minister, Vivek Bhatia and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
