Time not far when Kejriwal will be in Tihar Jail: BJP

Thursday, 05 October 2023 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Welcoming the arrest of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with the excise policy scam, the Delhi BJP on Wednesday sought to corner the AAP saying the heat of the probe will reach party leader Arvind Kejriwal.

The heat of liquor ‘scam’ probe that has led to arrest of former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and Singh will ultimately reach Delhi Chief Minister, they said.

In a statement, the Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said today is Sanjay and tomorrow will be Kejriwal, the main kingpin in the excise scam while Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said Singh’s arrest shows truth prevails ultimately and the law will finally catch up with Kejriwal too.

Bidhuri said the law is doing its job, and now the investigation is reaching the mastermind of the scandal. “Those who claimed to be staunchly honest are now being exposed before the public. Those who, together, committed a liquor scam, are now revealing the truth and naming the names. Soon, it will be known whose instructions led to the entire script of the liquor scandal being written and executed,” he added.

Delhi BJP MP Manoj Tiwari reacting over Singh’s arrest said that a “sinner” however clever is punished one day.  “The curse of women, whose children became alcoholic with the opening of liquor shops in front of their homes, has done its work. Singh has also been arrested. The heat of the probe will soon reach Kejriwal,” Tiwari said.

Delhi BJP Vice president Kapil Mishra alleged thousands of families were destroyed by the Kejriwal Government’s excise policy, which allowed liquor stores to be set up across the city with schemes to promote sales.

“Manish Sisodia, Vijay Nayar are already in jail and now Singh is also going to Tihar. The question is whether Kejriwal was unaware of their wrong doings,” Mishra said and demanded Kejriwal resign from the post of Chief Minister.

Delhi BJP president said, “Today, one thing is clear that the truth cannot be hidden...After Sanjay Singh, it’s Arvind Kejriwal.”

Earlier, describing AAP as ‘Aur Adhik Paap (more sins)’, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said Delhi’s ruling party was playing the victimhood card. AAP means ‘Aur Adhik Paap’. In the liquor scam case, the evil that Kejriwal and AAP committed is surfacing day by day... Rather than giving report cards on the liquor scam case, they are playing the victimhood card,” he said.

After the ED began raids at Singh’s residence, there has been a “BJP vs AAP” clash, with leaders from both parties accusing each other of corruption allegations. Hours after the raids started, AAP’s official Twitter handle posted an image of the MP with a banner in the background that read, “Fakkad house mein ED ka swagath hai” (Welcome to Fakkad house, ED!).

Earlier in the day, the BJP leaders and workers also staged a protest near the AAP office on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg on Wednesday, demanding Kejriwal’s resignation over developments related to the alleged excise policy scam.

The protest was led by Bidhuri in the presence of MPs Manoj Tiwari, Pravesh Sahib Singh and Ramesh Bidhuri. The protesters were marching towards the AAP office on DDU Marg from ITO when they were stopped by police who put up barricades.

The Leader of Opposition said the time is not far when Kejriwal’s will not be in the Assembly, Secretariat or Raj Mahal but lodged in Tihar Jail.  Sachdeva alleged that the raid at Singh’s residence has exposed the corruption of the AAP Government in the national capital.

“All those involved in the liquor scam will soon be behind bars,” Sachdeva said.

Tiwari said that former Minister Satyendra Jain is in judicial custody for the last 15 months and the same is the situation with former Liquor Minister Manish Sisodia who is in jail for more than 6 months, both of them have not been granted regular bail.

It means clearly that the court also feels that both of them are corrupt and also the ED has all the evidence for this.  The BJP has also erected hoardings in Delhi’s ITO area and at the AAP’s office calling for Kejriwal and the party’s supremo to “resign”.

Videos that prominently displayed the message available on the social media : “The mastermind of the liquor scam, Kejriwal’s friend, became a government witness. Kejriwal resign.”
