TMC attacks Centre on CAA, says it is peddling jumlas

The Trinamool Congress has once again attacked the BJP Government for "peddling more Jumlas in the electoral market in the name of Modi's Guarantee and the Citizenship Amendment Act."

Party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP government for unleashing a "jumla" in the form of CAA saying, "it will serve no purpose because you cannot provide citizenship to a person twice," and warning the people against filling up the forms that would amount to entering into a trap set up by the saffron Government to include them in the National Register for Citizens like in Assam.

"They have put 12 lakh Hindu Bengalis to detention camps after getting them listed in the NRC … CAA is nothing but a Jumla and a trap to get you listed in the NRC by default and then get you lodged in the detention centres as they have done in Assam," Banerjee addressing an election rally at Katwa in Burdwan said assuring however that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would never let them thrown out of India.

Referring to the CAA form Banerjee said how it was full of paraphernalia. "They have given a 40 page document in which there are 38 pages of forms that have to be filled by you … my question is why will you despite being Indian citizens fill up so many dotted lines," Banerjee said asking the people not to opt for CAA registration.

Stopping short of naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi he said how some people were giving "false guarantees" on various things "but if you continue to support Mamata Banerjee she would fulfill all her guarantees including the promise of providing houses to all by the end of December."

Referring to the women-centric State schemes like Laxmir Bhandar, Swasthya Saathi (health insurance) for all, Kanyashree, Rupashree etc Banerjee said "while they have promised Ayushman Bharat to limited number of people excluding those who have television or motorcycles in their houses … we have made Swasthya Saathi universally applicable," insisting, "this is the real guarantee which is given by Didi and which is not a Jumla delivered by Modi."
