Biggest challenge to provide right price for farmers produce: J’khand Speaker

Monday, 04 March 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Jharkhand Assembly Speaker, Ravindra Nath Mahato has appealed to the scientists to recommend agricultural technology according to the social, economic, educational background and circumstances of the farmers and their geographical environment so that it becomes easy for them to adopt the recommendations and get the right results.

Mahto said that middlemen and hoarders buy and store most of the farmers' produce at a low price and sell it at a higher price after some time. “Due to this, farmers get less profit and middlemen get more profit. The biggest challenge is to provide the right price to the farmers for their agricultural and animal products. If they start getting the right price, half of their problem will be solved,” he added.

The Speaker, on Sunday, was addressing farmers and scientists on Sunday at the Agrotech Kisan Fair organized at Birsa Agricultural University (BAU). He said that only 40 per cent of the land in Jharkhand can be cultivated, and in the remaining 60 per cent, an action plan should be made to harvest crops according to the soil and topography. He said that in all seasons – winter, summer and rainy season – farmers reach their fields before sunrise and work hard throughout the day to ensure that the country does not remain hungry. Therefore their profession should be given full respect.

Mahto also inaugurated the animal and bird exhibition organized in the fair. In this, 165 animal farmers from more than a dozen nearby villages have displayed their cows, buffaloes, pada, padi, bulls, hens, goats, pigs, rabbits, ducks and others.
Women farmers seminar was also organized in the fair today, addressing which Rajya Sabha member Dr Mahua Maji said that Jharkhand has a lot of natural wealth, yet most of the people here are poor. To stop the migration of laborers from Jharkhand and to stop human trafficking, Hemant government started many welfare schemes which have started yielding positive results, he added.

Former Mayor and National Secretary of BJP Asha Lakra said that in the State, women do almost 80 per cent of the agricultural work like planting, weeding, weeding, harvesting, rosemary and others., hence they should save their labour, time and cost by adopting innovative techniques. She laid emphasis on increasing the cultivation of grains like Maduva, Gundali, Kodo and preparing processed products of fruits and vegetables.

While delivering the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Dr Sunil Chandra Dubey said that the theme of the fair has been nutrition, income and employment promotion through agricultural innovations. Malnutrition and undernutrition is a major issue in Jharkhand, for which emphasis is being laid on the production and consumption of more nutritious grains and fruits and vegetables.
In the fair, Emlen Bage, Lohardaga Johny Tudu, Chatra, Sangeeta Tigga, Ranchi, Prasenjit Gorai, East Singhbhum, Dilip Kumar Sharma, Khunti, Dinesh Singh, Godda Kuldeep Oraon, Gumla and Amarendra Kumar were honored for their special contribution in the field of advanced agriculture. Was honored for.
