EX-SARPANCH KILLED; BODY BURIED IN FARMLAND IN KORAPUT

Koraput: A body of a former sarpanch in Koraput district was found buried in a farmland at Talagumandi village under Narayanpatna block on Friday. The deceased was identified as Singuru Tadingi (32), the former sarpanch of Talagumandi GP. Singuru had been to his farmland for work on Thursday but did not return home. His family members had searched him everywhere but in vain. The prima facie suggested that the body was buried in the farmland after his murder. Police started an investigation into the incident from all angles.

 

WOMAN CHARRED TO DEATH IN BALESWAR; FAMILY ABSCOND

Baleswar: A woman was allegedly charred to death inside a closed room of her house at Rasalpur village under the Bhograi police limits in Baleswar district on Friday. Villagers found Archana Behera, wife of Bhaskar Behera of the village, completely engulfed by the fire at around 7 am inside the house. They informed police about the incident. A fire brigade team reached the spot and controlled the fire. Police recovered the body. However, the family members of the deceased woman were absconding. The reason behind the incident was yet unclear.

 

YOUTH DIES IN ROAD MISHAP IN JAGATSINGHPUR

Jagatsinghpur: A youth was run over by heavy vehicle on Wednesday night at Tahasil Chhak in Jagatsinghpur town.  The deceased was identified as Babula Gahana, a resident of Hat Bazaar. The vehicle was coming from Alipingala towards Jagatsinghpur town when it hit the victim from the rear. The youth died on the spot. Hundreds of villagers staged a blockade placing the dead body on the road. As a consequence, traffic movement was halted till midnight. Police rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators and sent the body for postmortem.

 

RENGALI DAM-HIT’S IMMOLATION BID FOILED

Pallahara: The police here managed to foil the self-immolation bid of the Rengali dam affected people. Under the leadership of Dr Santosh Dehury, over 100 affected tenants gathered at Pallahara bus stand and shouted slogans and held a rally against the BJD Government and the local MLA. While the rally proceeded towards the Biju Pattanayak Chhak, the police intercepted them and took them into custody. Dam affected forum president Netrananda Samal, Gopala Biswal, Fulamani Pradhan among others led the rally.
