Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi, Rahul Kumar Sinha held a meeting with the central team for the prevention of bird flu on Saturday. After confirmation of H5N1 avian influenza in the samples of poultry tested at the Regional Poultry Project, Hotwar, Ranchi, discussions were held regarding the culling of the remaining poultry within a radius of 01-10 km of the affected area, scientific disposal and complete disinfection of the infected area by scientific method.
Sinha informed that the Rapid Response Team formed by the District Administration for the work under the Action Plan to prevent the spread of bird flu is carrying out the work of culling of poultry within a radius of 01-10 km of the infected area, scientific disposal and cleansing and disinfection of the infected area.
Also, within a radius of 1 km of the infected area, the team is checking the availability of chickens, eggs etc in chicken/egg shops and surrounding areas and necessary action is being taken to prevent the spread of bird flu and people are also being made aware through various means.
The central team expressed satisfaction over the work being done to prevent bird flu. Let us tell you that H5N1 avian influenza has been confirmed in the course of examination of poultry at the Regional Poultry Farm, Hotwar, Ranchi, since then, as a precautionary measure, the purchase, sale and transportation of any live/dead poultry/poultry product and eggs within a radius of one kilometer from the Regional Poultry Farm, Hotwar, Ranchi (infected area) is prohibited till further orders.
