The Congress on Thursday in its manifesto published before the elections gave a guarantee to the people of Odisha to strengthen the weak healthcare services in the State.
The government servants, pensioners and all the people of the State would be provided free treatment annually worth Rs 25 lakh in government and private hospitals in the State. Free treatment worth Rs 25 lakh would be provided to any person if he or she is injured in accident. The senior citizens would be provided heath checkup twice in a month through mobile healthcare services. Besides, in every district, a medical college and a nursing college would be set up, said State Congress media cell secretary and spokesperson Prasant Satpathy.
In Odisha, the weak infrastructure is fully responsible for the poor healthcare services. As many as 8 to 10 per cent of people are pushed into poverty while providing treatment to their near and dear ones in hospitals, In the country, as many a 67 per cent of the people are treated in hospitals at their own costs, Satpathy pointed out.
