The Infocity police busted a notorious dacoity gang from near a playground in the Patia area of the city when the gang was planning to loot a liquor shop.
Police arrested five persons in this connection.
The arrested were main accused SK Islam alias Kadam and his four associates Romy Nayak, Kartik Behera, Jitendra Samal and K Sibaji.
Kadam is a history-sheeter and there are as many as 48 criminal cases pending against him in different police stations of the State capital and outside.
“Kadam used to commit crimes after being released from jail custody on bail. He is involved in several crimes such as dacoity, snatching and theft. We have seized two crowbars, a knife, a liquor bottle, and several contraband items from the possession of the arrested persons,” a senior police official said.
The gang members used to reside in rented houses in different localities of the city and commit crimes, police said.
