Holi effect- UTC to increase frequency of buses

Friday, 22 March 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) is all set to increase the frequency of buses on selected routes from Friday considering the rush of passengers during Holi. The corporation has decided to increase the frequency of buses mainly on the Dehradun- Delhi routes due to more commuters on this route than others, the General Manager (Operations) of the corporation, Deepak Jain. He said that a total of 100 roadways buses operate on the Dehradun- Delhi route and usually UTC increases the frequency of buses by 25 per cent every year during Holi. The corporation has also issued directions to the drivers and conductors as a precautionary measure to ensure that vehicles are equipped with adequate spare parts and other necessary equipment so that buses can be easily repaired in case of breakdown. To ensure the attendance of drivers, conductors and other employees during this period, UTC is also considering launching a special incentive scheme for staff on duty during this period. However, the number of advance bookings and the number of passengers travelling have not been quite high so far which requires UTC to make big schedule changes, Jain said. He said that the frequencies of roadways buses will be increased on Delhi- Dehradun routes from Friday as per the requirement. The frequencies of buses operating on inter- district routes can also be increased if needed. This schedule is usually followed for about four to seven days as per the number of passengers before and just after Holi, he added.
