Meet held to make all Ganjam GPs child-friendly

A district level workshop cum coordination meeting was organised by the joint initiative of voluntary organisation, Youth for Social Development and UNICEF at Chatrapur on Saturday for the formation of child-friendly gram panchayats in Ganjam district.

 

The Vice Chairman of the District Council graced the event as the chief guest. Dignitaries and senior officers including Additional District Medical Officer (PHO); administrator, One Stop Center (Sakhi), as well as chief and director of Cures Organisation; Supervisor of ICDS, Rangeilunda Block, Block President, Mo Sewa Kendra, Additional District Labour Officer and Action Aid District Coordinator participated in the workshop.

 

The speakers expressed their views on the child-friendly gram panchayat and the achievements and initiatives of the last one year of Rangeliunda Block to ensure child-friendly measures. In particular, ensuring children's rights, including them in the social security scheme during emergencies, and ensuring their participation in local governance were some of the key issues that remained in focus.

 

Various natural disaster alerts, ensuring child safety during emergencies, discussion on child protection, and planning were also discussed. The need for a preparedness plan for creating child-friendly GPs was emphasized. Discussion was also held on myriad Government schemes and services available for children.
