On the auspicious occasion of Maha Shivratri, more than 100 metal idols of cobra were found in the Mahanadi river’s Subarnapur Ghat in the Banki area of Cuttack district on Friday.
As per reports, some children were taking bath in the water body, during which they felt the presence of the idols in the river as their legs came in contact with those.
Later, over 100 such idols were recovered from the ghat with the help of local fishermen. It is believed that some of the idols are ancient.
The idols were then kept at the local panchayat office.
Locals soon gathered at the spot to have a glimpse of the idols on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. Many women were seen pouring milk on the idols and worshipping them.
As officials of the local administration reached the place, the villagers demanded that the idols be kept at the mutt in the locality.
The source of the idols was yet to be ascertained.
