Mohali Admn to organise Marathon for Women Voters on April 17

Mohali: To achieve the target of 80 per cent voting in Mohali, the district administration will organise a Marathon for Women voters on April 17 from Sports Complex-78, Mohali. Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that the District SVEEP Team has chalked out many activities to boost the voting percentage in the district. In continuation of that, a Marathon has been planned that would cover a distance of 1.6 Km in the morning hours. She exhorted the women voters, particularly young and first-time voters to come forward and be part of this awareness activity. She said that the assembly time for the Marathon is 6:00 am while the starting time is 6:30 am from Sports Complex, sector-78, Mohali. The Deputy Commissioner said that SAS Nagar district’s Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation team is chalking out various activities to sensitise the voters to their voting rights.

Seeking removal of Chd Cong president Lucky, Pawan Bansal’s close aides quit party posts

Chandigarh: Seeking removal of Chandigarh Congress president Harmohinder Singh Lucky, several Congress leaders, who are close to ex-MP Pawan Kumar Bansal, resigned from their posts. Two days ago, Congress party had declared Manish Tiwari as its candidate from Chandigarh for the Lok Sabha Elections. Those who resigned include Chandigarh INTUC president Naseeb Jakhar, Mahila wing president Deepa Dubey, party vice-president Hafiz Anwar Ul Haq and Congress leader Ravi Thakur. Lucky had favoured a fresh face before the party high command, which meant any candidate other than Bansal should be considered.

DEO orders noise monitoring of political rallies during election

Mohali: Mohali Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Electoral Officer Aashika Jain has ordered noise monitoring of the sound being used in the political rallies/campaigning during the elections. The Deputy Commissioner said that the loudspeakers are the most common and effective mode of campaign because of their loud sound and mobility. She said that keeping in view its high decibel; loudspeakers have also become a serious menace to an environment that disturbs the peace of various sections of society like sick/infirm/old age people/students or household animals. Striking a balance between right of political parties to use it as a means of election campaign on one hand and the right of general public on the other hand, the Election Commission of India already issued instructions that decibels of the sound generated by loudspeakers/amplifiers do not exceed the permissible limit as fixed under the relevant law/guidelines.
