Vigilance sleuths on Thursday caught Block Veterinary Officer (BVO) of Reamal Deogarh district red-handed when he was accepting a bribe.
The BVO Dr Susmita Sethi was demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant, who is a poultry farmer, to submit an asset verification report in his favour for the release of a pending subsidy bill towards the construction of a poultry farm in his village under a government scheme, official sources said.
The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Dr Sethi and seized.
A Rourkela Vigilance PS case was registered in this connection and a detailed probe is in progress against the BVO.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two different locations associated with the BVO from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle, a Vigilance official stated.
