Students who have studied Informatics Practices in Class XII and wish to take admission into the coveted Delhi University can now heave a sigh of relief as the subject will be considered at par with Computer Science and can be included in the best of four subjects this year.
According to the earlier criteria, students who wanted to include this subject in the ‘best of four’ would have to forgo 2.5 per cent. However, now there would be no such disadvantage.
This decision was taken by the Vice Chancellor during a meeting held on Tuesday which took into consideration the earlier appeals made to the university by the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Vineet Joshi. Joshi had sent a letter to the university asking them to relax the disadvantage being given to students with Informatics Practices since the syllabus of the subject is the same as Computer Science. “Since the appeal came from the CBSE chairman, the matter was looked into seriously. We felt that since the chairman knows the syllabus better than the university, it was vital to allow these students a fair chance. Informatics Practices will be treated equivalent to Computer Science,” said Malay Neerav, Joint Dean, Students’ Welfare.
Joshi had also requested the university to provide relief to students who have studied Functional English and wish to do English Honours. The same has also been agreed upon by the university. “Earlier two per cent was deducted from the aggregate of those students who had studied Functional English and wanted to pursue English Honours. However, now it will be treated the same as Core English. There will be no disadvantage or advantage. Students who have studied Elective English will continue getting an advantage of two per cent,” explained Neerav. The applications to Delhi University ended on Monday and the first cut-off list will be out on June 24.
