A 24-hour power supply scheme will be launched in Andhra Pradesh on Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and will be extended to entire State in a phased manner.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the State and the Centre in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal in Hyderabad.
The Central Government will extend full assistance to the State in the implementation of “power for all” programme under which AP will be eventually declared as power cut-free State.
While the agriculture sector will get seven-hour free power supply, the industrial and domestic sectors will get 24-hour uninterrupted power.
AP is the third State after Delhi and Rajasthan to get the scheme. On this occasion state also signed five other MoUs worth involving an investment of `80,000 crore in the power sector. National Thermal Power Corporation has also agreed to set up 4,000 MW Thermal Power project in Visakhapatanam while another 1,000 MW solar project will be set up in Anantapur district.
“We are focusing on electricity as it is must for the economic development of the State”, Chandrababu Naidu said. Piyush Goyal advised Naidu to link the electricity bill payment to bank accounts so that the Jan Dhan Yojana become successful.
