Sonali Cable

Rated: 5/10
For those who are of the firm belief that the big bad MNCs are out to ruin the small indigenous businesses and are trying to oust the local grocerywallah, then Sonali Cable is the perfect movie to watch. So, of course, the movie is about how a big corporate is out to ruin a Sonali of her livelihood of providing cable (Internet) connection is a small locality in Mumbai.
So far so good. The issue dealt with in the movie is definitely a cause of concern for those who have been affected by corporates setting up shop in areas that were primarily a domain of small time traders like the local subziwala who feels that people now prefer to shop in AC malls at half the rate than give him the money for giving door-step delivery.
The performance by the starcast is passable but a special mention about Anupam Kher’s great acting combined with a perfect slouch and a comb over.
The problem with this film is that it tries to deal with various aspects — corruption (in the police and politics), how rich players are out to destroy the local market at whatever the cost, even murder, and the power of the aam admi. This infused with a romance between the lead pair means that the movie looses its connectivity with the reality that is hard to ignore.
