Auditorium in Raj Kapoor's memory to be built in Rewa

An international-level auditorium will be constructed in memory of noted film actor and director late Raj Kapoor in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will lay the foundation stone, which is expected to cost around Rs14.33 crore. The 1,000-seated auditorium to be spread in 3,301 square metre area is being constructed on the initiative of Public Relations, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Rajendra Shukla. The auditorium will comprise of an amphitheatre, amphi-resort, restaurant, two lawns and boundary. Adequate space will also be earmarked for parking. The auditorium will be constructed in 18 months.

Emotional memories of world great showman late Raj Kapoor are attached to Rewa. The international auditorium will be constructed to display and conserve these memories. The auditorium is being constructed at the same place at Sirmaur crossing where marriage of Raj Kapoor was solemnised.

He was married to the then Rewa Inspector General of Police late Kartar Nath Malhotra’s daughter Krishna Malhotra whose brothers Prem Nath and Rajendra Nath also became famous actors.

Raj Kapoor’s younger brother Shashi Kapoor had learnt swimming and horse riding here. The construction of the stadium will serve as a systemised forum for artistes of Vindhya region to exhibit their talents.
