'BJP creating obstacles, not working for public welfare'

Saturday, 29 March 2014 | PNS | Chandigarh

Chandigarh MP and Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal on Friday accused the BJP leaders for creating obstacles in smooth functioning of Parliament so as to avoid any development.

Addressing the residents here, Bansal said that it was ironical that instead of participating in the debate and suggesting the improvements in functioning or legislation for the general public, the BJP had created ruckus just to disrupt the functioning of institutions of public. This has been evident in Parliament as well as Municipal Corporation, Bansal said.

Bansal talked about the developmental works undertaken during his regime as Chandigarh MP. He referred to the improvements in PGIMER where crores had been spent on improving infrastructure and constructing various advanced healthcare departments. He also referred to special grants to Panjab University and various initiatives in improvement of primary healthcare and education.

Bansal added that soon the city would have proper auto and cycle rickshaw stands in all major sectors. Bansal also referred to various schemes for the poor people in the country. He said that large number of houses had been constructed and about 25,000 houses were expected to be constructed in the city soon.

Congress’ four-time MP failed to deliver: Kirron Kher

“If the local MP had not been an efficient leader then the people of Chandigarh would not have to run from pillar to post to get their issues resolved,” said Kirron Kher, Bharatiya Janata Party’s candidate for Chandigarh lok Sabha seat.

Participating in a political debate organised by the Chandigarh Confederation of Workers and Employees, Kher on Friday asked, “Why didn’t the sitting Congress MP, Pawan Kumar Bansal raise the issue of providing regular jobs to contractual workers at the CentreIJ Despite getting the full support from the voters, the four-time MP failed to represent Chandigarh’s problems in an effective manner in the Parliament.”

Kher said that if given a chance then she would fight for the rights of people in Parliament and would stand for the welfare of city residents.

After participating in the debate, Kirron Kher addressed a public and said, “If I get a chance to serve the people of Chandigarh then I will ensure the basic infrastructure here. “The Congress has ignored the problems of less privileged communities. If the BJP comes into the power at the Centre under the leadership of Narendra Modi, there would be development on all fronts,” she added.
