The State Government on Wednesday decided to open model schools in CBSE pattern from Class VI to XI in each of the 314 blocks.
A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here. Fifty per cent of the seats would be reserved for girls, while the schools would have boarding facilities.School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra said the State Government would spend Rs 190 crore for development of infrastructure of the 162 model schools, which would be established during the current financial year.
He said that the Chief Minister had asked to constitute a Special Society on the pattern of the Central Schools for efficient management of the proposed schools and also creation of a special cadre of teachers.
The schools would have vocational subjects, apart from regular subjects under the CBSE courses. English, Odia, Hindi and Sanskrit would also be taught as additional subjects, he informed. School and Mass Education Secretary Usha Padhee and other senior officials were present.
